ALIVE! - Evolving in Community (Episode 01)
A rich conversation with Dr. Andrew Kaplan Mandel and Kathleen McShane about changemaking rooted in faith and the need to build mutually-empowering communities and transcend existing structures.
We will learn from their experience mobilizing collectively for social change, innovating rituals while keeping the wisdom of traditions, evolving in community, and SO MUCH MORE!
Kathleen McShane (she/her) is the co-founder of the Changemaker Initiative, a layperson-empowerment vision that pairs a deep immersion in Jesus’ compassion with the innovation skills of social entrepreneurs. She is a recently retired United Methodist pastor, an educator, and a leader for other pastoral leaders through the Changemaker Church Movement. She is also in the process of publishing a book with Rabbi Elan Babchuck about the potential of faith leaders to become exemplars of more mutually empowering structures.
Dr. Andrew Kaplan Mandel (he/him) is the founder of Tzedek Box, a new ritual dedicated to the Jewish call for justice, and founding leader of The Neighborhood @ Central Synagogue, the global online community of Central Synagogue. A graduate of Harvard College and Columbia’s Teachers College, Andrew worked at Teach for America, founded and ran a multi-faith community organizing and advocacy organization, and has spent more than 20 years developing leaders for social change. In May, he will be ordained as a rabbi. Ashoka is serving as a neutral host for multi-faith conversations about social entrepreneurship and changemaking through its Spiritual Changemakers Initiative.
